Registered Nurse - Full Time

REGISTERED NURSE LEVEL 1

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of and reporting to the Director of Donor Services and/or Mobile Supervisor (or designee), is responsible for complete medical history assessment and collecting blood through standardized methods (blood-pack unit) from donors or patients. In the absence of the Mobile Supervisor, organizes staff work assignments and effectively manages the blood drives.  Participates in continuing education programs and maintains competency in all aspects of the job.

Adheres to all Community Blood Council of New Jersey, Inc. standard operating procedures (SOP), current good manufacturing practices, safety policies and Disaster Plan.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Education: Associates degree in nursing.  New Jersey and/or Pennsylvania registered nursing license required.  CPR certification required.

Minimum Experience: 0-6 months nursing experience

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The Registered Nurse Level 1 position requires flexibility in scheduling and providing the utmost in customer service to the donor/patient at all times.  One must be able to interact and communicate in a professional manner at all times with internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The RN position requires continual climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouchin

g, reaching, standing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and finger use.  Pushing and pulling are occasionally required.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Determines appropriate donor suitability

Register donors/patients On-Line or Off-Line with SafeTrace

Understands the donor deferral registry

Performs an accurate and conclusive medical history in accordance with the SOP

Understands SafeTrace - Visit Types and Special Process Codes

Recruit/qualify donors for the ALYX Component Collection System (2RBC/RBC-Plasma)

Identifies the parameters for the physical examination

Proficient in performing finger-sticks

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Determines donor hemoglobin via Hemocue methodology

Successfully performs phlebotomy with a minimum number of failed collections and

  donor/patient complaints

Follows the “Collection of Whole Blood Procedure” - Operates 2 Whole Blood Donor Beds

Records draw information in SafeTrace

Understands SafeTrace Fail Codes

Utilizes Donor Information Window in SafeTrace

Ensure all supplies are in-date and not expired

Manages donor reactions and completes the “Donor Reaction Form”

Competent in performing all quality control (Eyewash, Hemocue, HemoFlow200, Trip Scale, Ohaus Scale, Unit Number Tracking Log, Temperature Log, ChloraPrep Lot Number Log, Iodine Scrub/Swab Lot Number Log, Sure Temp Plus 690 Thermometer, Elemano and Sphygmomanometer)

OTHER RELATED DUTIES:

Assists in all areas without being asked when the assigned work is completed

Remains flexible to accommodate scheduling adjustments

Supports blood center goals and objectives

Performs other related duties as assigned
